Artist Statement Taru Tuulia

I am an artist living in Finland. The main things in my production is to combine different materials and methods.

Different materials tell different stories to me. Often I also use recycled materials; old wood or old fabric tell their own stories and artworks are multilayered.

Ideas to my art I get from different materials, unconscious, colors and nature. Drawing is also one way of expressing myself.

At this moment I am inspired by acrylic plexiglass. I have taken photographs of nature at Toscana at Italy. Flower reflects life from its blossom to death. Curvy and twisting bodies of grapevine look like a woman or animal to me.

With textile sculptures I can show big and difficult feelings that are hard to put in words.
With plexiglass I can get modern and new feeling to traditional subjects.
